This dataset represents the Essential Fish Habitats of Golden Crab as described in Final Habitat Plan for the South Atlantic Region: Essential Fish Habitiat Requirements for Fishery Management Plans of the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council, The Shrimp Fishery Management Plan, The Red Drum Fishery Management Plan, The Snapper Grouper Fishery Management Plan, The Coastal Migratory Pelagics Fishery Management Plan, The Golden Crab Fishery Management Plan, The Spiny Lobster Fishery Management Plan, The Coral, Coral Reefs, and Live/Hard Bottom Habitat Fishery Management Plan, and the Calico Scallop Fishery Management Plan (October 1998).

Purpose:

This dataset was assembled in support of ongoing South Atlantic Fishery Management Council (SAFMC) imternet mapping service (IMS) efforts in association with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), Fish and Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI)

Supplemental_Information:

Prior to July 1, 2004, the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI) was known as the Florida Marine Research Institute (FMRI). The institute name has not been changed in historical data sets or references to work completed by the Florida Marine Research Institute. The institute name has been changed in references to ongoing research, new research, and contact information.

This polygon represents the areas within a roughly defined extent of the Gulf Stream with ocean depths ranging from 200-1000 meters. The Gulf Stream is described here as the 'extreme front positions' of the Gulf Stream 'erased' within an ArcGIS 9.2 environment to bathymetric depths of 200m and 1000m. The dataset was then processed using the "Dissolve" tool based on the "ITEM" field resulting in a more simplified attribute table.
