NAVIGATION WARNING: Since these derivative chart images have been warped to non-Mercator projections they are no longer spatially explicit reproductions of official NOAA NOS nautical charts. This renders them inappropriate (useless) for navigation. A statement to that effect should be placed on any map using a nautical chart TIFF. The age of these images does not correspond to the latest NOAA NOS nautical charts. These images might portray out of date and incorrect information. For the most current nautical chart information, or for navigation, users must consult the most current edition of the appropriate NOAA NOS nautical chart.

FILE NAMING CONVENTION: The file names for the images correspond to the official NOAA NOS nautical chart number. Where the original paper charts have multiple panels, the image files names use a number suffix to identify individual panels from the same chart. Suffix numbering was assigned by FWRI staff and does not correspond to any NOAA NOS numbering or naming convention.

CHART EDITIONS: Navigation features are constantly changing. NOAA NOS updates and correct official nautical charts on a regular basis. Most of these files are based upon NOAA NOS charts released prior to 1997. The file naming convention used for these image files does not provide provision to identify the NOAA NOS chart version used in creation of each image file. In addition, Marginalia identifying chart editions were trimmed from the images during files creating. Therefore, the date and chart edition of many of these images can not be determined. These images must be used with caution and only for general reference purposes.

NOTE: This chart has been corrected from the Notice to Mariners published weekly by the National Imagery and Mapping Agency and the Local Notice to Mariners issued periodically by each US Coast Guard district.

The nautical charts were scanned from the most recent versions of the charts available in 2000. The contractor for scanning and georeferencing was Image Links. The charts were delivered in Albers and Geographic. Scanning was at 250-300 dpi.

Purpose:

To provide supplementary nautical information related to the South Atlantic Habitat and Ecosystem IMS.

Prior to July 1, 2004, the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI) was known as the Florida Marine Research Institute (FMRI). The institute name has not been changed in historical data sets or references to work completed by the Florida Marine Research Institute. The institute name has been changed in references to ongoing research, new research, and contact information.
