Abstract:

This dataset includes all tidal wetlands dominated by woody vegetation less than 5 meters in height, and all such wetlands that occur in tidal areas in which salinity due to ocean-derived salts is equal to or greater than 0.5 percent. Total vegetation coverage is greater than 20 percent.

Characteristic species: Sea-myrtle (Baccharis halimifolia) and marsh elder (Iva frutescens).

Purpose:

This modified dataset was produced as part of theSouth Atlantic Fishery Management Council (SAFMC) ongoing IMS efforts.

Supplemental_Information:

Prior to July 1, 2004, the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI) was known as the Florida Marine Research Institute (FMRI). The institute name has not been changed in historical data sets or references to work completed by the Florida Marine Research Institute. The institute name has been changed in references to ongoing research, new research, and contact information.

Data downloaded from NOAA's Coastal Services Center [ <http://www.csc.noaa.gov/crs/lca/southeast.html> ] during February, 2008. This dataset was selected using the Raster Calculator function of the Spatial Analyst extension within ArcGIS 9.2. This selected dataset was then converted into a vector-based polygon shapefile.
