This GIS polygon data set represents the state parks of Florida. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) maintains these data and provides biannual updates. FDEP last updated this data set in 2005. Attributes were derived from Properties Under the Jurisdiction of Division of Recreation and Parks.

Purpose:

This data set represents Florida's State parks in a vector format.

Supplemental_Information:

Prior to July 1, 2004, the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI) was known as the Florida Marine Research Institute (FMRI). The institute name has not been changed in historical data sets or references to work completed by the Florida Marine Research Institute. The institute name has been changed in references to ongoing research, new research, and contact information.

The descriptions are, at worst, as good as the 1:24000 electronic quad data, and most often, much better. Topology was run, which revealed overlaps we are aware of. No topology corrections were made.

FDEP provided the January 2003 shapefile. ArcInfo COGO was used whenever bearing and distance calls or northing and easting points where available. After completion of thorough research to assure the use of the most accurate source, legal descriptions and property deeds were interpreted and COGOed and/or digitized into an ArcInfo coverage. FDEP based creation of the FSP (Florida state parks) coverage on a projected USGS quad boundary coverage in State Plane. Once the coverage was completed, CLEANed and edited, it was projected to NAD-83. FDEP used ArcView to relate attribute information to their GIS data set.

FDEP derived information from BTIITF leases, deeds, surveys, plats, or1:24,000 quads.
