The Southwest Florida Regional Restoration Coordination Team (SWFL RRCT) was created in 2002
by the South Florida Ecosystem Restoration Task Force and Working Group to represent Southwest
Florida within the Greater Everglades. The Team is tasked with the integration, coordination,
and evaluation of the region's environmental restoration activities and to make recommendations
to the Working Group. Its principal activities include the identification and prioritization of
restoration science gaps and restoration projects.
The Team is composed of representatives from numerous environmental agencies, academic institutions,
not-for-profit environmental groups, and other environmental consortia (see membership list below).
As defined in the by-laws (see below), all members of the Big Cypress Basin - Estero Bay RCT and the
Charlotte Harbor - Caloosahatchee RCT are also members of the SWFL RRCT. The RRCT also functions with
a representational structure. Four members plus the chairperson from both the BCB-EB RCT and the CH-C RCT
(see below) meet more frequently to conduct more urgent business. The RRCT meets 4 times per year: 3 of
the quarterly meetings are attended by the representatives; during the 4th quarter an annual meeting is held
and all RCT members participate.
The RRCT office is located on the campus of Florida Gulf Coast University. The team's executive assistant is
Ms. Heather Rein (239-590-7215; hrein@fgcu.edu). The team's two co-chairs are: Dr. Lisa Beever at the Charlotte
Harbor NEP office (239-995-1777; lbeever@swfrpc.org) and Dr. Michael Savarese at FGCU (239-590-7165; msavares@fgcu.edu).
