Regulations Summary and Area Map

Rules, access and hunting season dates and allowed fishing access are subject to change due to military training. Call the Camp Blanding hotline (904-214-7533) for hunting information and fishing information (Magnolia and Lowry lakes).
 
This brochure is designed to provide the public with information and a summary of regulations pertaining to hunting and other recreational use on the Camp Blanding Wildlife Management Area. Regulations that are new or differ substantially from last year are shown in bold print. Area users should familiarize themselves with all regulations. For exact wording of the wildlife laws and regulations, see the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) wildlife code, on file with the Secretary of State and state libraries. This brochure, the Florida Hunting Regulations handbook, and quota permit worksheets should provide the information necessary for you to plan your hunting activities. These publications are available at MyFWC.com.
 
Persons using wildlife management areas are required to have appropriate licenses, permits and stamps. The following persons are exempt from all license and permit requirements (except for quota permits when listed as “no exemptions,” recreational use permits, antlerless deer permits and the Migratory Bird Hunting and Conservation Stamp [federal duck stamp], if applicable): Florida residents who are 65 years of age or older; residents who possess a Florida Resident Disabled Person Hunting and Fishing Certificate; residents in the U.S. Armed Forces, not stationed in Florida, while home on leave for 30 days or less, upon submission of orders; and children under 16 years of age. Children under 16 years of age are exempt from the federal duck stamp. Anyone born on or after June 1, 1975 and 16 years of age or older must have passed a Commission-approved hunter-safety course prior to being issued a hunting license, except the Hunter Safety Mentoring exemption allows anyone to purchase a hunting license and hunt under the supervision of a licensed hunter, 21 years of age or older.
 
Youth and mentor license holders are required to be accompanied by a supervisor during any hunt. A youth hunter (less than 16 years of age) must be supervised by a person at least 18 years of age. A mentor license holder must be supervised by a licensed hunter at least 21 years of age. Unless exempt, only those supervisors with proper licenses and permits may hunt.
 
Licenses and permits may be purchased from county tax collectors, license agents, by telephone at 888-486-8356 or at GoOutdoorsFlorida.com. A no-cost Migratory Bird Permit is available when purchasing a hunting license. Any waterfowl hunter 16 years of age or older must possess a federal duck stamp.

Quota Permit Information:
Archery-only Area - 150, no-cost, daily quota permits, available first-come, first-served at the check station, each day of the season.
Muzzleloading Gun - 200, no-cost, quota permits for each of 2 hunts.
Supervised Youth - 40, no-cost, youth hunt quota permits (no exemptions) for each of 2 hunts.
General Gun Still Area 1 (first 9 days) - 200, no-cost, quota permits for each of 2 hunts.
General Gun Still Area 2 (first 9 days) - 200, no-cost, quota permits for each of 2 hunts.
General Gun Still Area 1 (after first 9 days) - 200, no-cost, daily quota permits, available first-come, first-served each day, at the check station.
General Gun Still Area 2 (after first 9 days) - 200, no-cost, daily quota permits, available first-come, first-served each day, at the check station.
General Gun Dog - 200, no-cost, quota permits for each of 2 hunts.
Youth Turkey - 35, no-cost, quota permits (no exemptions).
Spring Turkey - 35, no-cost, quota permits for each of 2 hunts.
 
Permit applications: Hunters must submit electronic applications for quota and special-opportunity permits at GoOutdoorsFlorida.com. Worksheets listing hunts, application periods, deadlines and instructions are available at county tax collector’s offices, FWC offices or MyFWC.com. Quota application periods occur throughout the year beginning April 1; please refer to the hunting handbook or MyFWC.com for specific dates. Worksheets will be available about 2 weeks prior to each application period.
 
Guest hunters: For each non-transferable archery, muzzleloading gun, general gun, wild hog, spring turkey and mobility-impaired quota permit issued through GoOutdoorsFlorida.com, a quota permit holder (host) may take a guest hunter by obtaining a guest permit. Guest hunters are not allowed during supervised youth and youth turkey hunts. A guest hunter must possess a completed guest permit while hunting except the following persons may be a guest hunter without a guest permit: a youth under 16 years of age, a youth supervisor, a mentor license holder or a mentor license supervisor. A host may only bring 1 guest hunter at a time and may only use 1 guest permit per day. The following persons are not considered to be guest hunters: other quota permit holders, non-hunters and exempt hunters (on areas and during seasons that allow exemptions). The guest hunter and host must enter and exit the area together and must share a street-legal vehicle while hunting on the area. The guest hunter may hunt only while the host is on the area and must hunt in the same zone to which the host is assigned. Refer to the quota hunt worksheets for additional information.
 
Youth and mentor license holders: If a youth or mentor supervisor is hunting during any hunt for which quota permits are issued, at least 1 person in the party must be in possession of a quota permit. During a hunt that allows exemptions, a non-exempt supervisor of a youth must have a quota permit to hunt.
 
Transfer of permits: Quota and guest permits are not transferable; antlerless deer permits are transferable. A positive form of identification is required when using a non-transferable permit, except for a youth under 16 years of age. The sale or purchase of any quota permit, guest permit or antlerless deer permit is prohibited.

Area Regulations
  • General
    General Area Regulations:
    All general laws and regulations relating to wildlife and fish shall apply unless specifically exempted for this area. Hunting or the taking of wildlife or fish on this area shall be allowed only during the open seasons and in accordance with the following regulations.
    1.  Any person hunting deer or accompanying another person hunting deer shall wear at least 500 square inches of daylight fluorescent-orange material as an outer garment, above the waistline. These provisions are not required when hunting with a bow and arrow during archery season.
    2.  Taking of spotted fawn, swimming deer or roosted turkey is prohibited.
    3.  It is illegal to hunt over bait or place any bait or other food for wildlife on this area.
    4.  Driving a metal object into any tree, or hunting from a tree into which a metal object has been driven, is prohibited.
    5.  No person shall cut, damage or remove any natural, man-made or cultural resource without written authorization of the landowner or primary land manager.
    6.  Taking or attempting to take any game with the aid of live decoys, recorded game calls or sounds, set guns, artificial light, net, trap, snare, drug or poison is prohibited. Recorded calls and sounds can be used to hunt furbearers, wild hog and crows.
    7.  The wanton and willful waste of wildlife is prohibited.
    8.  Hunting, fishing or trapping is prohibited on any portion of the area posted as closed to those activities.
    9.  People, dogs, vehicles and other recreational equipment are prohibited in areas posted as “Closed to Public Access” by FWC administrative action. 
    10.  Taking or herding wildlife from any motorized vehicle, aircraft or boat, which is under power is prohibited until power, and movement from that power, has ceased.
    11.  Most game may be hunted from ½ hour before sunrise until ½ hour after sunset (see exceptions for each season).
    12.  The release of any animal is prohibited, except by permit from FWC or written authorization from the landowner or primary land manager.
    13.  The head and evidence of sex shall remain with any deer harvested on the area and shall not be removed from the carcass of any turkey harvested on the area.
    14.  The planting or introduction of any non-native plant is prohibited, without written authorization of the landowner or primary land manager.
    15.  Wild hog may not be transported alive.
    16.  A hunting license is not required to hunt wild hog.
    17.  Littering is prohibited.
    18.  Fires are prohibited. 
    19.  A Law Enforcement Officer may search any camp, vehicle or boat, in accordance with law.
    20.  Possession or consumption of intoxicating beverages or drugs is prohibited.
    21.  Falconers may hunt during the statewide falconry season anytime a management area is open for public access. Falconers are not exempt from quota permits during periods requiring them.
  • Public Access and Vehicles
    Public Access and Vehicles:
    1.  Public access is allowed only as follows:
    A.  During     periods open to hunting and from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. 1 day prior to supervised youth season and youth spring turkey hunts. Only persons participating in the hunt may access the area. Each hunter may be accompanied by a non-hunting assistant (no license or permit required). This assistant may participate in the hunt but may not harvest wildlife. The non- hunting assistant and host hunter must enter and exit the area together, must share a street-legal vehicle while on the area and must remain in the immediate vicinity (25 feet or less) of one another.
    B.  Fishing is allowed on Magnolia and Lowry lakes per Fish Management Area regulations.
     C.      Hiking is allowed on the Florida Trail (see #8 for details).
    2.  Camp Blanding National Guard     regulations limit vehicular speed on the area to 40 MPH, unless posted otherwise.
    3.      Vehicles may be operated only on named or numbered roads shown on the brochure map. Vehicle use is prohibited on roads posted as closed.
    4.  Public access is prohibited in the artillery impact area and areas not open for hunting.
    5.  The use of all-terrain vehicles is prohibited.
    6.  Parked vehicles may not obstruct a road, gate or firelane.
    7.  No motor vehicle shall be operated in areas designated as closed to vehicular traffic.
    8.      A marked footpath called the Florida Trail traverses the area. Persons accessing this trail must complete and return a no-cost daily trail permit at a trail entrance kiosk upon entering and leaving the trail. Persons accessing the trail must remain on the marked trail. Going off trail is prohibited. 
  • Hunters

    Hunters, Check Stations and Harvest Reporting:
    1.  Rules, access and hunting season dates are subject to change due to military training. Call the Camp Blanding hotline (904-214-7533) for information.
    2.  Hunters must check in at an area check station upon entering and check out upon leaving the area and check all game harvested.
    3.  Check station hours are 5:30 a.m. until 1 hour after sunset during all seasons except as follows:
     A.  During wild hog-dog season when the check station is open each day only from 12:00 a.m. until 6:00 a.m. and from 7:30 p.m. until 11:59 p.m.
     B.  During spring turkey season, when the hours are from 5:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
     C.  One day prior to supervised youth and youth spring turkey season hunts when the hours are from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.
    4.  Scouting is prohibited prior to open hunting seasons, except as described above for supervised youth and youth spring turkey seasons.
    5.  Hunters may access still hunt areas 1 and 2 and the dog hunt area only through FWC check stations 1, 2 or 3.
    6.  Access to the still hunt areas may be irregular from December 1 through January 15 due to military training. Call the Camp Blanding hotline (904-214-7533) for information.
    7.  In addition to checking all game at an area check station, hunters must log each harvested deer or turkey prior to moving it form the point of recovery and report any deer or turkey they harvest within 24 hours of recovery. See Florida Hunting Regulations handbook or MyFWC.com for deer and turkey harvest reporting instructions.
    8.  During periods open to hunting, hunting equipment and dogs (dogs only allowed during the general gun-dog and wild hog-dog seasons) may be taken into the area 1 hour before sunrise, except supervised youth and youth spring turkey season hunters may take hunting equipment into the area from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. 1 day prior to supervised youth and youth spring turkey season hunts. Hunting equipment and dogs (when allowed) shall be removed each day of the hunting season by 1 hour after sunset (see exceptions for wild hog-dog season).

  • Guns
    Guns:
    1.  Hunting on or within 100 feet of Dade, Treat, East Tank Trail, Ridge and Impact roads is prohibited.
    2.  Hunting at night with a gun is prohibited (see exception for wild hog-dog season).
    3.  Muzzleloading guns used for taking deer must be .30 caliber or larger, if firing a single bullet, or be 20 gauge or larger if firing 2 or more balls.
    4.  Hunting deer with rimfire or non-expanding, full metal jacket (military ball) ammunition is prohibited.
    5.  Hunting wildlife (other than migratory birds) with air guns is allowed. See Florida Hunting Regulations handbook for details.
    6.  Hunting deer with air guns is prohibited, except pre-charged pneumatic (PCP) air guns propelling a bolt, arrow, or bullet .30 caliber or larger are allowed.
    7.  Hunting turkey with air guns is prohibited, except during general gun seasons when PCP air guns propelling a bolt, arrow or a bullet .20 caliber or larger may be used. 
    8.  Children under the age of 16 hunting with a firearm or air gun must be in the presence of a supervising adult.
    9.  No person shall discharge a firearm or have a loaded firearm in hand while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
    10.  For hunting non-migratory game, only shotguns, rifles, pistols, air guns, bows, crossbows or falconry may be used.
    11.  For hunting migratory game, only shotguns, bows, crossbows or falconry may be used. Shotguns shall not be larger than 10 gauge and shall be incapable of holding more than 3 shells in the magazine and chamber combined.
    12.  Hunting with full-automatic firearms, centerfire semi-automatic rifles having a magazine capable of holding more than 5 rounds, explosive or drug-injecting devices and set guns is prohibited.
    13.  The discharge of a firearm outside of periods open to hunting or in areas closed to hunting is prohibited per s. 790.15 FS.
  • Dogs

    Dogs:
    1.  Hunting deer or wild hog with dogs is allowed only in the dog hunt area.
    2.  The taking or pursuing of deer, wild hog, fox or coyote with dogs is prohibited unless each dog is equipped and monitored with devices that allow remote tracking and behavior correction.
    3.  Possession or use of a dog, other than a dog on a leash for trailing wounded game, is prohibited except as follows:
     A. Dogs may be used to hunt in the dog hunt area during general gun-dog and wild hog-dog seasons.
     B. Bird dogs may be used to hunt in still hunt areas 1 and 2 after the first 16 days of general gun season.
    4.  No person shall allow any dog to pursue or molest any wildlife during any period in which the taking of wildlife by the use of dogs is prohibited.

  • Camping
    Camping:
    Prohibited.
  • Bag and Possession Limits

    Bag and Possession Limits: A guest hunter must share the host’s bag limit for deer, turkey, and quail, except when these bag limits are specified as per person. The host is responsible for violations that exceed the bag limit.
    1.  Deer - No person shall exceed statewide bag limits.
     A. Area limits - See statewide limits below, except during the supervised youth season only 1 deer may be taken (either antlered or antlerless) per youth.
     B. Statewide limits - Annual limit 5 deer (only 2 of which may be antlerless), daily limit 2, possession limit 4.
     C. As part of the statewide annual deer limit, youth less than 16 years of age may harvest 1 deer annually not meeting antler point requirements but having at least 1 antler 5 inches or more in length.
    2.  Wild hog - No size or bag limit.
    3.  Turkey - No person shall exceed statewide bag limits.
     A. Area limits - Daily limit 1.
     B. Statewide limits - All fall seasons combined limit 2, spring season limit 2, daily limit 2, possession limit 2.
    4.  Gray squirrel and rabbit - Daily limit 12 per person, possession limit 24 for each.
    5.  Quail - Daily limit 12, possession limit 24.
    6.  Raccoon, opossum, armadillo, beaver, coyote, skunk and nutria - No bag limits.
    7.  Bobcat and otter - Possession limit 1 unless in possession of a trapping license.
    8.  Migratory birds - See Florida Hunting Regulations handbook.
    9.  Non-protected birds (African and Eurasian collared-doves, common pigeon, Egyptian goose, house sparrow, and common starling) – No bag limits.

  • Archery Season
    September 26-28, October 3-5 (still hunt and archery-only areas only)
    October 10-12, 17-19, November 20 - January 14 (only in the archery-only areas)
    Permit, Stamp and License Requirements - Daily quota permit (if hunting in the archery-only areas), hunting license, management area permit, archery permit, deer permit (if hunting deer), wild turkey permit (if hunting wild turkey), migratory bird permit (if hunting migratory birds), and state waterfowl permit and federal duck stamp (if hunting waterfowl).
    Legal to Hunt - Deer with at least 1 antler having 3 or more points (each point 1-inch or more in length) OR a main beam length of 10 inches or more, antlerless deer (which includes does and bucks with antlers less than 5 inches in length, but not spotted fawn), wild hog, turkey of either sex, gray squirrel, quail, rabbit, raccoon, opossum, armadillo, beaver, coyote, skunk, nutria, migratory birds in season, and non-protected birds. Bobcat and otter beginning December 1.
    Regulations Unique to Archery Season - 
    1.  Only archery equipment may be used for hunting. Hunting with crossbows is prohibited (except by disabled crossbow permit).
    Regulations Unique to Archery-only Areas -
    2.  Hunters must check in at check station 1 upon entering and check out upon leaving the area, obtain a daily quota permit number and check all game harvested. These requirements may be completed by telephone (904-529-1045).
    3.  Hunters should use the walk-through gate openings when entering the hunt area.
    4.  Archery-only areas will be closed on dates scheduled for military exercises.
  • Muzzleloading Gun Season
    October 10-12, 17-19 (still hunt areas only)
    Permit, Stamp and License Requirements - Quota permit, hunting license, management area permit, muzzleloading gun permit, deer permit (if hunting deer), wild turkey permit (if hunting wild turkey) and migratory bird permit (if hunting migratory birds).
    Legal to Hunt - Deer with at least 1 antler having 3 or more points (each point 1-inch or more in length) OR a main beam length of 10 inches or more, wild hog, turkey of either sex, gray squirrel, quail, rabbit, raccoon, opossum, armadillo, beaver, coyote, skunk, nutria, migratory birds in season, and non-protected birds. 
    Regulations Unique to Muzzleloading Gun Season - Hunting with archery equipment or guns, other than muzzleloading guns, is prohibited.
  • Supervised Youth Hunt
    October 7-8, 21-22 (dog hunt area only)
    Permit, Stamp and License Requirements - Quota hunt permit (no exemptions).
    Legal to Hunt - Any deer (except spotted fawn), wild hog, gray squirrel, quail, rabbit, raccoon, opossum, armadillo, beaver, coyote, skunk, nutria, migratory birds in season, and non-protected birds.
    Regulations Unique to Supervised Youth Hunts -

    1.  Participants may scout the area from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. 1 day prior to each hunt.

    2.  Only persons younger than 16 years of age, but not younger than 8, may hunt.

    3.  Each hunter must be under the supervision and in the presence of an adult not younger than 18 years of age.
  • General Gun Still Season
    November 20-23, 24-28, November 29 - January 14 (still hunt areas only)
    Permit, Stamp and License Requirements - Quota permit (if hunting before November 29) or daily quota permit (if hunting after November 28), hunting license, management area permit, deer permit (if hunting deer), wild turkey permit (if hunting wild turkey), migratory bird permit (if hunting migratory birds), and state waterfowl permit and federal duck stamp (if hunting waterfowl).
    Legal to Hunt - Deer with at least 1 antler having 3 or more points (each point 1-inch or more in length) OR a main beam length of 10 inches or more, antlerless deer by antlerless deer permit only (each antlerless deer permit allows the take of only 1 doe or 1 buck with antlers less than 5 inches in length, but not spotted fawn), wild hog, turkey of either sex (November 22-23, November 27-28 and November 29 through November 30 only), gray squirrel, quail, rabbit, raccoon, opossum, armadillo, beaver, coyote, skunk, nutria, migratory birds in season, and non-protected birds. Bobcat and otter beginning December 1.
  • General Gun Dog Season
    November 20-30 (except not including Thanksgiving Day), December 26 - January 5 (dog hunt area only)
    Permit, Stamp and License Requirements - Quota permit, hunting license, management area permit, deer permit (if hunting deer), wild turkey permit (if hunting wild turkey), migratory bird permit (if hunting migratory birds), and state waterfowl permit and federal duck stamp (if hunting waterfowl).
    Legal to Hunt - Deer with at least 1 antler having 3 or more points (each point 1-inch or more in length) OR a main beam length of 10 inches or more, wild hog, turkey of either sex (November 28 through November 30 and January 3-5 only), gray squirrel, quail, rabbit, raccoon, opossum, armadillo, beaver, coyote, skunk, nutria, migratory birds in season, and non-protected birds. Bobcat and otter beginning December 1.

  • Trapping
    December 1 - January 7 (still hunt areas only)
    Permit, Stamp and License Requirements - Quota permit or daily quota permit (if trapping during any quota period), trapping license and management area permit.
    Legal to Trap - Raccoon, opossum, armadillo, beaver, coyote, skunk, nutria, otter and bobcat.
  • Wild Hog-Dog Season
    January 26-28, February 18-20 (dog hunt area only)
    Permit, Stamp and License Requirements - Management area permit.
    Legal to Hunt - Wild hog.
    Regulations Unique to Wild Hog-Dog Season -  
    1.  Please read the "Dogs" section for important updates related to hunting with dogs.
    2.  The check station is open each day only from 12:00 a.m. until 6:00 a.m. and from 7:30 p.m. until 11:59 p.m.
    3.  Hunts will begin 1 1/2 hours after sunset the first day of the hunt and end 1 1/2 hours before sunrise the day following the last day of the hunt. Hunting is only allowed from 1 1/2 hours after sunset until 1 1/2 hours before sunrise. Hunting during the day (from 1 1/2 hours before sunrise until 1 1/2 hours after sunset) is prohibited.
    4.  Wild hog may only be taken during the night by the aid of a light with dogs and a firearm. Hunting wild hog by display or use of a light from a moving vehicle, vessel or animal is prohibited.
  • Spring Turkey Season
    Youth Turkey: March 16-17
    Spring Turkey: March 18-24, March 30 - April 5

    Permit, Stamp and License Requirements - Quota permit, hunting license, management area permit and wild turkey permit.
    Legal to Hunt - Bearded turkey or gobbler. 
    Regulations Unique to Spring Turkey Season - 
    1.  Youth spring turkey hunt participants may scout the area from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. 1 day prior to the youth spring turkey hunt.
    2.  Hunters may not enter the area until 5 a.m. during hunts. Legal shooting hours begin at ½ hour before sunrise. All hunters must exit the area by 1 p.m. during hunts.
    3.  Only shotguns using a #2 or smaller shot size may be used for hunting (including in the archery-only area).
    4.  During the youth turkey hunt, only youth under 16 years of age may hunt and must be under the supervision and in the presence of an adult not younger than 18 years of age. Adults with required licenses and permits for taking wild turkeys may participate when in the presence of a youth, but may not harvest a wild turkey.
    5.  Hunting with dogs is prohibited.
    6.  Each hunter must select a zone upon entering the area. Selection and assignment of Zones 1 and 2 will be made at check station # 3, Zone 3 at check station # 1, and Zone 4 at check station # 2. Each guest hunter must hunt in the same zone as the host.
    7.  A hunter may only enter the zone to which he or she has been assigned.
    8.  Hunting other animals is prohibited.
  • Migratory Bird Season

    Migratory game birds and crows may be hunted during their respective statewide seasons that coincide with the seasons listed in this brochure. See migratory game bird hunting regulations.
    Permit, Stamp and License Requirements - Quota permit or daily quota permit (if hunting during any quota period), hunting license, management area permit, migratory bird permit, and state waterfowl permit and federal duck stamp (if hunting waterfowl).
    Legal to Hunt - See migratory bird season dates, bag limits and regulations. Non-protected birds may also be taken. 
    Regulations Unique to Migratory Bird Seasons - All Migratory Bird Regulations shall apply.
    1.  Hunting ducks, geese and coot with lead shot is prohibited.
    2.  Hunting with centerfire shotguns during the archery and muzzleloading gun seasons is prohibited.
    3.  Shooting hours for mourning and white-winged dove are 1/2 hour before sunrise until sunset.
  • Fishing

    Allowed only on Lowry and Magnolia Lakes.
    Permit, Stamp and License Requirements - Fishing license.
    Legal to Take - See Florida Freshwater Fishing Regulations Summary.
    Regulations Unique to Fishing - All General Freshwater Fishing Regulations and Fish Management Area regulations shall apply.
    1.  Open when allowed by Camp Blanding Range Control on Saturdays and Sundays from 6:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. each day and during periods open to hunting. Call 904-214-7533 for Camp Blanding lake information.
    2.  Access to Magnolia and Lowry Lakes for fishing shall be on Treat Road only, when allowed by Camp Blanding Range Control.
    3.  Frogging is prohibited.
    4.  Persons fishing should fill out a daily use card and obtain a daily use pass and return it to check station 2 upon entering the area.
    5.  Fishing from the bank is prohibited.

Armory Board Rules and Information:
1.  Following the first 9 days of the general gun season, portions of the area may be closed due to military training. Call the Camp Blanding hotline (904-214-7533) for information.
2.  The Impact Area contains a high concentration of unexploded munitions that may detonate without warning, which could cause injury or death. Any unauthorized personnel found in the artillery range impact area will be prosecuted and, in addition, be barred from Camp Blanding Military Reservation for a period of not less than 10 years.
3.  The use of any Camp Blanding rifle, pistol range or landing zone for target practice or driving on any range is strictly prohibited. Violations may result in the expulsion of the violator from the Camp Blanding Military Reservation for a period of not less than 10 years.
4.  Fish Management Area lakes, or other portions of the area, may be closed during military training activities.
