- Archery Season
September 14-15, September 16 - October 13 Permit, Stamp and License Requirements - Quota permit (if hunting first 2 days) or daily quota permit (if hunting after first 2 days), hunting license, management area permit, archery permit, deer permit (if hunting deer), wild turkey permit (if hunting wild turkey), migratory bird permit (if hunting migratory birds), and state waterfowl permit and federal duck stamp (if hunting waterfowl). Legal to Hunt - The take of antlerless deer is prohibited. Deer with at least 1 antler having 3 or more points (each point 1-inch or more in length) OR a main beam length of 10 inches or more, wild hog, turkey of either sex, gray squirrel, quail (prohibited in the Quail Enhancement Area), rabbit, raccoon, opossum, armadillo, beaver, coyote, skunk, nutria, migratory birds in season and non-protected birds. Regulations Unique to Archery Season - Only archery equipment may be
used for hunting, except that centerfire and muzzleloading shotguns are allowed for hunting
migratory birds and non-protected birds. Hunting with crossbows is prohibited (except by disabled
crossbow permit).
- Muzzleloading Gun Season
October 19-21 Permit, Stamp and License Requirements - Quota permit, hunting license, management area permit, muzzleloading gun permit, deer permit (if hunting deer) and migratory bird permit (if hunting migratory birds). Legal to Hunt - Deer with at least 1 antler having 3 or more points (each point 1-inch or more in length) OR a main beam length of 10 inches or more, wild hog, gray squirrel, quail (prohibited in the Quail Enhancement Area), rabbit, raccoon, opossum, armadillo, beaver, coyote, skunk, nutria, migratory birds in season and non-protected birds. Regulations Unique to Muzzleloading Gun Season - Hunting with archery equipment or guns, other than muzzleloading guns, is prohibited, except that centerfire shotguns are allowed for hunting migratory birds and non-protected birds.
- General Gun Mobility-Impaired Season
October 25-27 (East of Canoe Creek Road) Permit, Stamp and License Requirements - Hunting license, management area permit, deer permit (if hunting deer) and migratory bird permit (if hunting migratory birds). Legal to Hunt - Deer with at least 1 antler having 3 or more points (each point 1-inch or more in length) OR a main beam length of 10 inches or more, antlerless deer (which includes does and bucks with antlers less than 5 inches in length, but not spotted fawn), but only certified mobility-impaired hunters are allowed to take antlerless deer, wild hog, gray squirrel, quail (prohibited in the Quail Enhancement Area), rabbit, raccoon, opossum, armadillo, beaver, coyote, skunk, nutria, migratory birds in season and non-protected birds.
Regulations Unique to Mobility-Impaired General Gun Season -
1. All hunt participants are requested to attend a pre-hunt orientation meeting at the U.S. 441 check station 5 p.m. the day before the hunt.
2. All hunt participants shall check in and out at the U.S. 441 check station when entering and exiting the hunt area.
3. Hunting is allowed only in that portion of the area east of Canoe Creek Road.
4. Vehicles are not restricted to named or numbered roads or named or numbered trails.
5. Mobility-impaired hunters may be accompanied by a hunting guest (guest permit not required) and 1 non-hunting assistant that may participate in the hunt (no license required), but the non-hunting assistant may not harvest wildlife.
6. All guests must enter and exit the area with the mobility-impaired hunter and share the same vehicle.
7. The guest hunter cannot hunt on the area unless the mobility-impaired hunter is present on the area.
8. The guest hunter and non-hunting assistant may not bring additional hunters on the area.
9. The guest hunter and mobility-impaired hunter must share the bag limit of a single person. The mobility-impaired hunter shall be responsible for both parties complying with the bag limit.
10. Mobility-impaired hunters shall have their valid mobility-impaired certification cards in possession.
- General Gun Season
November 2-3, November 4 - December 29 Permit, Stamp and License Requirements - Quota permit (if hunting during first 2 days or if hunting east of the turnpike Dec. 5-8 or Dec. 26-29) or daily quota permit (Nov. 4 through Dec. 4, Dec. 9-25, and if hunting west of the turnpike Dec. 5-8 or Dec. 26-29), hunting license, management area permit, deer permit (if hunting deer), migratory bird permit (if hunting migratory birds), and state waterfowl permit and federal duck stamp (if hunting waterfowl). Legal to Hunt - Deer with at least 1 antler having 3 or more points (each point 1-inch or more in length) OR a main beam length of 10 inches or more, wild hog, gray squirrel, quail (prohibited in the Quail Enhancement Area - see Quail Season), rabbit, raccoon, opossum, armadillo, beaver, coyote, skunk, nutria, migratory birds in season and non-protected birds. Bobcat and otter beginning December 1.
- General Gun Dog Season
December 5-8, 26-29 Permit, Stamp and License Requirements - Quota permit (if hunting east of the turnpike) or daily quota permit (if hunting west of the turnpike), WMA deer-dog hunting permit (if hunting deer with dogs), hunting license, management area permit, deer permit (if hunting deer), migratory bird permit (if hunting migratory birds) and state waterfowl permit and federal duck stamp (if hunting waterfowl). Legal to Hunt - Deer with at least 1 antler having 3 or more points (each point 1-inch or more in length) OR a main beam length of 10 inches or more, gray squirrel, quail (prohibited in the Quail Enhancement Area - see Quail Season), rabbit, raccoon, opossum, armadillo, beaver, coyote, skunk, nutria, bobcat, otter, migratory birds in season and non-protected birds.
Regulations Unique to General Gun-Dog Season -
1. Dogs with a shoulder height of 17 inches or less may be used for deer hunting east of the turnpike (between the Florida Turnpike and U.S. 441) only.
2. Hunting with dogs is prohibited west of the turnpike.
3. A WMA deer-dog hunting permit is required to hunt deer with the aid of dogs.
- Small Game Season
December 30 - March 2 Permit, Stamp and License Requirements - Daily quota permit, hunting license, management area permit, migratory bird permit (if hunting migratory birds), and state waterfowl permit and federal duck stamp (if hunting waterfowl). Legal to Hunt - Wild hog, gray squirrel, quail (prohibited in the Quail Enhancement Area except during established Quail Season - see Quail Season), rabbit, raccoon, opossum, armadillo, beaver, coyote, skunk, nutria, migratory birds in and non-protected birds. Bobcat and otter through March 1. Regulations Unique to Small Game Season - Hunting with centerfire rifles is allowed.
- Raccoon Season
January 10-12, 24-26, February 7-9 (only in that area between the Florida Turnpike and U.S. 441 and only 1½ hours before sunset on Friday until 1½ hours after sunrise on Sunday) Permit, Stamp and License Requirements - Daily quota permit, hunting
license and management area permit. Legal to Hunt - Raccoon and opossum.
Regulations Unique to Raccoon Season -
1. Raccoon or opossum may be hunted at night by the aid of a light and dogs, with .22 rimfire firearms other than .22 magnum, or with a single-shot .410 gauge shotgun using shot no larger than No. 6.
2. Hunting raccoon or opossum by display or use of a light from a moving vehicle, boat or animal is prohibited.
- Quail Season
(Quail Enhancement Area only):
January through February (Wednesdays and Saturdays only, maximum of 16 days).

Permit, Stamp and License Requirements - Hunting license and management area permit. Legal to Hunt – Quail and small game in season (See Small Game Season). Regulations Unique to Quail Season - The daily bag limit for quail is 6 per person.
- Trapping
Prohibited.
- Spring Turkey Season
Youth Turkey: March 8-9 Spring Turkey: March 15 - April 20 Permit, Stamp and License Requirements - Daily quota permit, hunting license, management area permit and wild turkey permit. Legal to Hunt - Bearded turkey or gobbler.
Regulations Unique to Spring Turkey Season -
1. Legal shooting hours are ½ hour before sunrise until sunset.
2. Hunting other animals is prohibited.
3. Only bows, crossbows, PCP air guns propelling a bolt or arrow and centerfire and muzzleloading shotguns using a #2 or smaller shot size may be used for hunting.
4. During the youth turkey hunt, only youth under 16 years of age may hunt and must be under the supervision and in the presence of an adult not younger than 18 years of age. Adults with required licenses and permits may participate when in the presence of a youth, but may not harvest a wild turkey.
- Migratory Bird Season
Migratory game birds and crows
may be hunted during their respective statewide seasons that coincide with the
September duck seasons or seasons where migratory birds are listed as legal to
hunt in this brochure. See migratory game bird hunting regulations.
Permit, Stamp and License Requirements - Quota
permit or daily quota permit (if hunting during any quota period), hunting
license, management area permit, migratory bird permit, and state waterfowl
permit and federal duck stamp (if hunting waterfowl). Legal
to Hunt - See migratory bird season dates, bag limits and regulations. Non-protected birds may also be taken.
Regulations Unique to Migratory Bird Seasons - All Migratory Bird Regulations shall apply.
1. Hunting ducks, geese and coot with lead shot is prohibited.
2. Only Lake Jackson and the portion of the area between the Prairie Lakes Unit and Canoe Creek Road will be open for the September duck seasons.
3. Centerfire and muzzleloading shotguns are allowed for hunting during established area seasons when migratory birds are legal to take.
4. Shooting hours for mourning and white-winged dove are ½ hour before sunrise until sunset. 5. Non-hunting assistants with required licenses and permits may actively
participate in Veterans and Active Military Waterfowl Hunting Days, provided
they may not harvest wildlife with a gun. 6. Adults with required licenses and permits may actively participate in
Youth Waterfowl Hunting Days, provided they may not harvest wildlife with a gun.
- Fishing and Frogging
Allowed year round. Permit, Stamp and License Requirements - Fishing license and daily-use or management area permit (if fishing) or management area permit (if frogging). Legal to Take - See Florida Freshwater Fishing Regulations Summary. Regulations Unique to Fishing and Frogging - All General Freshwater Fishing Regulations shall apply. Shooting frogs is allowed only during the listed open hunting seasons and only with the legal methods of take during each particular season. Frogs may only be taken by firearms during daylight hours.
