Abstract:

This GIS data set serves as a documentation of the benthic habitat found in Florida Bay as it existed in the Spring of 2004. Digital data was collected using photogrammetric techniques. Groundtruthing was performed to verify photointerpretation classification.

Purpose:

This dataset was created to provide an accurate depiction of the benthic habitat of Florida Bay, as defined using "Habitat Classification Categories for Florida Bay Benthic Habitat Mapping - 2004/2005, Version 3-23-05" This classification is an adaptation from Florida SCHEME (System for Classification of Habitats in Estuarine and Marine Environments), FWC.

Supplemental_Information:

Prior to July 1, 2004, the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI) was known as the Florida Marine Research Institute (FMRI). The institute name has not been changed in historical data sets or references to work completed by the Florida Marine Research Institute. The institute name has been changed in references to ongoing research, new research, and contact information.

An aerotriangulation solution was computed across the project area, using ImageStation Automatic Triangulation (ISAT) software issued by Z/I Imaging, Inc. Utilizing ABGPS/IMU data, camera calibration reports and the raw scanned photography supplied by FWRI, ISAT created a solution that meets the National Map Accuracy Standards for 1:24,000 scale maps. The GPS/IMU data was used as the control for creating the aerotriangulation solution. Upon completion of the aerotrianulation solution check points derived from USGS DOQQ's were used to check the spatial accuracy of the aerotriangulation solution.
