This dataset represents the result of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Division of Freshwater Management Long Term Monitoring program lakes mapping efforts. Mapping of submersed vegetation is accomplished using gps to record sampling site locations. Information for each site is recorded such as species and depth and density of vegetation.
<purpose>This dataset was created to support the What's Happening on my Lake interactive web application which provides various details about Florida lakes including fishing info, habitat and plant management, lake features, and more. </purpose>

<procdesc>Spreadsheets containing point intercept locations and other sampling information were provided by FWC’s Division of Freshwater Fisheries biologists. For each year, the spreadsheets were converted to geodabase tables and appended if needed to create one table for each year and the following ArcGIS processing was done. The Feature Class to Feature Class tool was run, filtering unwanted records and mapping the fields. The Spatial Join tool was run to join the Lake_Id field from a feature class containing waterbodies being monitored to the point intercepts feature class, while also adding a ‘Year’ field and ‘Species’ field. The ‘Year’ field was then calculated with the year taken from the current folder name. another field calculation was performed to create a new Site_Id by concatenating the ‘Lake_Id’ and ‘Site_number’ fields. This was done to create ensure that each sampling site had a unique id across all waterbodies sampled. The Delete Field tools was then run to cleanup all un-needed fields. Then, using the Site_Id field as a key, the ‘Species’ field was populated with a concatenated list of species for each site from another table containing more detailed sampling data. Lastly, the feature classes from each year were appended to a single feature class. </procdesc>

Lastly, the feature classes from each year were appended to a single feature class.</stepDesc>
