This dataset was created to support the What's Happening on my Lake interactive web application which provides various details about Florida lakes including fishing info, habitat and plant management, lake features, and more. Prior to July 1, 2004, the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI) was known as the Florida Marine Research Institute (FMRI). The institute name has not been changed in historical data sets or references to work completed by the Florida Marine Research Institute. The data were then checked visually against other datasets known to be accurate to ensure spatial integrity. A field was added to assign each waterbody a unique ID taken from the USGS GNIS ID. For waterbodies with no GNIS ID, a 3 digit sequential number was concatenated to the 3 digit county FIP number. Finally, the attribute table was cleanup up and checked for consistency according to FWRI QAQC procedures.
