This county polygon was derived from the GIS_Web.FWC.counties_2mil_poly feature class for the WHOML web application which require a counties boundary layer with 1 feature per county.
This dataset was created to support the What's Happening on my Lake interactive web application which provides various details about Florida lakes including fishing info, habitat and plant management, lake features, and more.
Prior to July 1, 2004, the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI) was known as the Florida Marine Research Institute (FMRI). The institute name has not been changed in historical data sets or references to work completed by the Florida Marine Research Institute. The institute name has been changed in references to ongoing research, new research, and contact information.

The ‘counties_2mil_poly’ was imported into ArcPro from the FWRI GIS database. The data was then exported to a new feature class, keeping only the ‘COUNTY’ field. The ‘Dissolve’ tool was run to dissolve records by ‘COUNTY’ so that each county was a unique record.
