One-minute grid created using a customized VBA script for ArcGIS 9.0. The customized script was developed using code adapted from Robert Nicholas's "Fishnet" VB script (http://arcscripts.esri.com/details.asp?dbid=12807). The deepwater grid was generated as a polygon file using the Geographic NAD27 coordinate system. Each grid cell is one-minute latitude by one-minute longitude. The grid extends from the VA/NC border south along the US east coast, around the southern tip of FL and westard through the Dry Tortugas. The grid extends from the shoreline to approximately 5 nautical miles beyond the 2000 m depth contour. Each grid cell is identified by an eight digit "Block" number representing the latitude and longitude (in degrees and minutes) of the southeast corner of the grid cell. Each grid cell is coded to a bottom type based on the DeepWater Mapping data that fall within the cell. Where a data point falls precisely on the border between two grid cells, the datum is assigned to the north or west cell. Line (transect) data assign bottom values to the grid cell in which the line begins. Polygon data assigns bottom value to each grid cell that a given polygon covers. Each grid cell is attributed to reflect the number and type of bottom data that fall within the cell. Each grid cell within the one-minute grid was coded to a bottom type of either Special Habitat (SH), Hard Bottom (HB), Tilefish Habitat (TH), Possible Hard Bottom (PH), or Soft Bottom (SB) based on the Deepwater Mapping point, line, and polygon data that intersect the grid cell.

Contains unique number for each 1' grid cell established for the survey area: code represents latitude and longitude of southeastern corner of grid cell.
Concatenation of Agency_pro and Gear type. Agency_pro is a unique code used to identify a particular project. For example, the first 2 characters identify agency, last 2 identify project. The Gear type code describes the gear and method used to collect the data. This field will relate to the unique-id in the Primary Bottom Map table of the template database.
