Abstract:
This GIS data set includes the nearshore and offshore bathymetry of the northern west coast of Florida as lines representing bathymetric contours and polygons representing the depth ranges between the contours. While only the polygon data are served on the ArcIMS site, line contours are also available by request. Please see the Distribution Information section below for data request procedures.
Geonex digitized the contours during 1991-1992 from clean, wrinkle-free paper National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) nautical charts, using the most current versions of the charts available at that time. The source charts used to create this data set varied in scale from 1:10000 to 1:80000, but in all cases the largest scale charts available were used. Geonex staff also interpolated additional contours not present on the charts.
Florida Marine Research Institute (FMRI) staff digitized the offshore contours from a clean, wrinkle-free paper copy of NOAA Nautical Chart 11006 at a scale of 1:875,000.
Purpose:
To represent marine depth contours and depth range polygons, primarily for cartographic purposes.
Supplemental Information: These data may contain attribute and positional inaccuracies. Use with caution.
These data are not to be used for navigation. User should be aware that later versions of the source charts may be available and that contours may have changed. Consult the most recent paper or digital charts available and appropriate coast pilot.

All entities and attributes have been identified and documented. FMRI has not verified attribute accuracy. FMRI has completed a partial quality assurance and quality control check for logical consistency between DEPTH and D-coding attributes.
Logical Consistency Report:
Attribute Description: Most of the data are logically consistent. However, some lines are coded as 666 indicating that they are inland water bodies. This attribute should be for polygons only, because a line around an inland water body should have a depth of 0. However, not all of the arcs coded as DEPTH = 666 are indeed shoreline and not all of the polygons coded as 666 are fully land-locked. This data set needs additional quality checks and editing.
