Abstract:
GIS point coverage of manatee carcass locations in Florida between April 1974 through to the latest spatially verified data presently available. Locations are based on both coordinates or maps provided by Law Enforcement of field staff. FMRI, Endangered and Threatened Species GIS Staff then verify that the coordinates provided match the location when mapped using the current FWC - Florida base map at a 1:40,000 scale.
Purpose:
Primary use is to display manatee carcass recovery location and cause of death.

Methodology Description:
Create spatial coverage in ArcPC from Lat/Long coordinates provided by field staff. Move point in Arc/Info 8.x if required to match intent as illustrated on hardcopy map provided with mortality report by field staff. Update coordinate values using SMLs in dbase III and Arc PC. Calculate date attributes from repdate to repday, repmonth, repyear. Append to master file. Master file is renamed everytime it is appended to the following format: deathmonthyearfinal. For example dth601f (mortalities in June of 2001, final copy).
