Description:
Abstract:
The Ocean Planning Information System (OPIS) is an Internet-based, regional marine GIS. Its study area extends from the coastal zones of the Carolinas, Georgia, and Florida to the exclusive economic zone, including a variety of maritime boundaries. OPIS was developed to provide coastal and ocean resource managers in the Southeast with access to regional digital geographic mapping information and technologies to facilitate coordinated decision making within and across the multi-layered U.S. ocean management framework. Special emphasis is placed on the federal ocean and coastal management and governance framework, and efforts are ongoing to develop similar data sets for state and local level policy frameworks.
This layer represents designated regions with specific military-related restrictions.
Purpose:
OPIS provides marine resource managers with timely and equitable access to downloadable data, cutting-edge online mapping functionality, and guidance on how to use GIS in a meaningful way with respect to ocean management. THE DATA INCLUDED IN THIS APPLICATION ARE BASED ON INTERPRETATION OF AVAILABLE INFORMATION AND SHOULD NOT BE CONSTRUED AS LEGALLY BINDING.

Attribute_Accuracy_Report: The attributes in this dataset are believed to be accurate.
Logical_Consistency_Report:
These data are believed to be logically consistent, although not tested. Geometry appears topologically clean.
Completeness_Report:
This dataset covers the entire Ocean GIS area (see abstract). Spatial and attribute properties are believed to be complete, although attribute information has been simplified. Geometric thresholds from original data are preserved. No test have been completed for exhaustiveness.
