Welcome to the Treasure Coast - South Photo of Jupiter Lighthouse

The Treasure Coast of Florida spans four coastal counties: Indian River, St. Lucie, Martin, and Palm Beach*. This area supports one of Florida’s most productive natural systems. Estuaries like the Indian River, St. Lucie River, Loxahatchee River, and Hobe Sound, where salt water from the sea meets and mixes with fresh water, are nurseries for young fish, shrimp, and crabs. More than 70 percent of all fish, shellfish, and crustaceans spend some critical stage of their development in these nearshore waters, protected from larger predators that swim in the open sea.

The waters along the Treasure Coast are also popular for fishermen and boaters. It is not uncommon to catch trophy fish from inshore and offshore waters on the same day. For boaters, the waters around St. Lucie Inlet form the crossroads for the Okeechobee and Intracoastal Waterways.

By boating safely and with greater awareness of the natural environment, you can help protect the Treasure Coast and the wildlife that depends on these waters for survival.

* - The Boating and Angling Guide to the Treasure Coast-South shows the coastal waters of northern Palm Beach and Martin Counties. The Boating and Angling Guide to the Treasure Coast-North will cover the coastal waters of St. Lucie and Indian River Counties and will be produced in the near future.
